📸 Photo series #11: A walk in the streets of Armenia
An unforgettable visual journey through this unfamiliar country!
Hello everyone 👋🏻,
Thanks for participating in our last poll. It appears that many street photographers appreciate discovering other artists' photos, mainly through books or zines. A photo book has the power to immerse you in the photographer's world, offering time to find inspiration and grasp the purpose behind each project. This is precisely what we aim to achieve with StoryDrops - a platform where you can fully explore and stay informed about the universe of various photographers and their work.
Now, I bet some of you are unfamiliar with Armenia. This country, with a population of only 3 million, has been beautifully captured by Dietmar Temps and serves as an undiscovered paradise for street photography.

A street adventure in Armenia by Dietmar Temps
⏱️ Reading time: 3 min
The photos were taken during a 2 weeks street photography workshop in Armenia. The trip covered the capital Yerevan and the northern part of Armenia, like Lake Sevan and Vanadzor.
Armenia is a wonderful place for street photography because of the authentic and friendly people and the impressive Soviet-era architecture. It is kind of an adventure to walk in the streets of the neighbourhood, to make new friends and try to capture the real life with many unexpected situations.

Who’s behind the lens?
Describe yourself as a photographer and where you are based
My name is Dietmar Temps and I live in Cologne, Germany. I work as a media consultant with the focus on internet projects, travel and street photography, social networking and video streaming.
On my website I present street portraits, street photography, documentary and travel photography. My photographic artwork is published in many books, travel guides and magazines. Meanwhile I am also part of a worldwide community in the field of travel and street photography and I am frequently invited to book projects, calendars and exhibitions.
Your favorite camera and lens
For street photography I use the Fujifilm X-T5 with the 18mm and 23mm lens. For street portraits I use the Canon R5 with a 50mm lens.
Your favorite places to shoot
My favorite places for street photography are India and Eastern Europe, for example Armenia or Istanbul. For street portraits I love to visit African villages, especially in Ethiopia, but also Malawi and Senegal.
According to you, what makes a good picture
Each genre of photography has its own rules that make a picture stand out from the mass of images. The street portrait should be natural and authentic and it only works well when a relation between the person in the photograph and the spectator of the final picture is established. For street photography the whole scene is important and it should show a candid or decisive moment. A good street photograph should present something unexpected, and if possible, it should tell a story.
Your favorite photographers and where you get inspired.
I like the Magnum photographers and I follow the work of Claude Renault, Maciej Dakowicz and Barry Talis. I get my inspiration from Instagram, Flickr and international photo festivals.
