📸 Photo series #6: India is changing
When India's ancient roots embrace modern winds of change.
Hello everyone! 👋
Have you ever had the opportunity to visit India before?
Today we are thrilled to introduce a street photographer from this country with an exclusive photo series for StoryDrops. India’s soul proves to be an exceptional destination for photographers, offering a paradise of vibrant streets bustling with a myriad of colors, shapes, sounds, and smiles. In fact, this is confirmed by the very active community of talented street photographers capturing the vibrant atmosphere of the streets out there. We will definitely continue to showcase their work in the near future!
Through Aniruddha's distinctive photographic style and photo associations, he transports us to India, allowing us to experience the essence of traveling through a country that is continuously evolving.

Our Times, Our Place by Aniruddha Guha Sarkar

A massive wind of change is blowing through India right now – an ancient civilization is trying to assert itself as a superpower of the future! These increasing signs of change are becoming increasingly visible (even in the ever-present procession of signs of ancient traditions) – the globalization and commoditization of ancient cultures, massive infrastructural projects replacing old (at times, heritage) towns, digitization of the economy, civic services and the people, new dreams and way of life of the millennials and so on. This journey from the ancient rivers of faith to the outer space hasn’t been easy – there are dissenting voices – of the minorities and marginals who are still left out of the change, the assertive voices of the majority, people who have lost their ancient homes to generate space for the new infrastructure, the agony of the farmers accentuated by the falling fate of agriculture and so on.
A famous photographer had once said that the best that an artist can do in today’s world is to experience and express the time and place that we live in. My personal journey makes me subscribe to that view. This photo series tries to capture some of these changes.

Who’s behind the lens?
Describe yourself as a photographer
My name is Aniruddha Guha Sarkar. I live in New Delhi, I am an Engineer by education, a part of the top management of an American I.T Services company by profession and a learning photo-artist by passion. Having been bored to death by corporate nothingness in various parts of the world for nearly 25 years, I took to the streets with my camera around 7 years ago in search of a better meaning. During this time, some of my work got exhibited in various international group exhibitions (e.g. in a few Italian cities, Moscow, Hamburg, Dubai etc.) and printed in various international/ national magazines. I am also a member of iN-PUBLiC and TTL collectives.
Artistic passion for creating a work of art and the craving for the joy when such rare occasions happen was always there in me and will be there in future too. However, I felt a growing need since the last few years that before trying to become an artist, one must first understand the time and place that one lives in. The moments that I express in my images must come out of such deep experiences. I am therefore trying street documentaries on social themes these days – in order to be myself. Despite the limitations of my talent and time (due to my crushing professional commitments), going deeper to understand and express the time and place that I live in remains the only responsible direction that I can take and will therefore continue.
