Summer Jamboree by Francesca Chiacchio
⏱️ Reading time: 5 min
This is my third time to the Summer Jamborre, an event happening in Senigallia, a small town in the Marche region, on the Italian Adriatic Coast, in which people from all over the world gather to dress and dance like the 40’s and the 50’s in America. It’s like traveling back in time, a trip to the old time America.
Most of the participants go there to learn some of the many dance styles you can practice in the dance or boot camps available. If you are not a dancer or don’t want to become one, no problems, you can always spend your time shopping in the vintage markets, have a tattoo designed, or go to a barber shop or a hairstylist to have a ‘50s look; waiting until the evening when everybody reunite around the two concert stages set in town.

Describe yourself as a photographer and where you are based
I started shooting and developing photos while studying architecture in Naples, Italy. After graduating, I attended a photography class and soon after I moved to NYC with the dream of becoming a professional photographer. Once there, I ended up working as an architect for 8 years. Back in Naples, in 2015 I approached Street Photography and in 2017 I bought my first professional digital camera and started to attend several photography workshops. Since 2019 I have participated in various Street Photography group exhibitions and my work has been published both online and in print.
I am a member of an international street photography collective called "Through The Lands", which aims to connect 14 photographers from all over the world to show their unique P.O.V. of the countries they visit. I am also one of the 100 Women Street Photographers showcased in the book curated by Gulnara Samoilova and published by Prestel Publishing in 2021. In May 2023 I was invited as judge and guest speaker at the Italian Street Photo Festival and in September I won the second prize at the Gothenburg Street Photography Festival with my collection "Napolism".
